Skyrocketing Airfares and Hotel Rates for India vs Pakistan World Cup Match in Ahmedabad

Airfares to Ahmedabad, the host city of the upcoming India vs Pakistan World Cup match in October, have seen a drastic increase. One-way direct economy class flights from Delhi to Ahmedabad range between Rs 9,011 and over Rs 24,000, while flights from Mumbai to Ahmedabad range from Rs 10,517 to Rs 24,189, according to Make MyTrip and ixigo. The surge in flight ticket prices is driven by unprecedented demand for the match scheduled on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The heightened demand for flight tickets has led to a surge in prices on various flight booking websites. EaseMyTrip CEO and co-founder Nishant Pitti mentioned that the demand for flight tickets and searches on their platform has reached an all-time high, with many people already booking tickets well in advance to attend the match.

Hotel room rates in Ahmedabad have also skyrocketed, with prices increasing by nearly ten times. Luxury hotels are charging anywhere between Rs 40,000 to Rs 1 lakh per night, and many hotels are already sold out for the day of the match. Notably, rooms are unavailable for October 15 at prominent hotels such as ITC Narmada, Courtyard by Marriott, Hyatt, and Taj Skyline Ahmedabad. On normal days, luxury hotel room rates in the city range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000.

Narendra Somani, President of the Gujarat Hotel and Restaurant Association (HRA), explained that hotels have raised their rates in response to high demand, particularly from non-resident Indians (NRIs) and upper-middle-class cricket fans residing in other cities. He added that hoteliers take advantage of the strong demand to maximize revenue, knowing that their rooms will be fully occupied. However, it is expected that once the demand subsides, room rates will also come down.

The surge in airfares and hotel rates underscores the immense popularity and anticipation surrounding the India vs Pakistan World Cup match in Ahmedabad. As fans eagerly book their travel and accommodation, prices are reflecting the heightened demand for this highly anticipated sporting event.
